Spectacular Leonid Meteor Shower 2009 – Happens Today!
I just found out about this cool meteor shower that’s supposed to happen today. Some are saying it could be one of the showiest meteor showers of our lifetimes as our planet passes through a stream of comet debris. The strongest portion is supposed to appear in Asia, with a potential 200-300 meteors per hour (only 20-30 for North America). Really wish I could see that! What a show! Can’t wait to see the photos from their vantage point!!
Nasa has an informative article on the shower here, that you might want to check out: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/10nov_leonids2009.htm.
Only thing is: I guess for those of us in North America, the peak was early this morning at around 3am CT and of course, you can’t really see them in the day time. (sigh) Bummer. I know I was asleep, how about you?
However, I understand the shower actually lasts up to two days. So maybe we can catch some tonight! Right now, I totally wish I had one of those night sky cameras!
